December 2008

Greetings all,

This is my first attempt at a "Prez Sez" so please bear with me and be kind!

In the December 2008 meeting a bunch of very important and noteworthy things went on.

  • In the club elections, Mike Mathieu stepped down as club President, and Glenn Cauley was voted in as President for 2009. Wayne Giles graciously agreed to carry on as Secretary/Treasurer for 2009, Ken Allen and Bill Wilson will continue on as contest coordinators, and Bill Wilson will also take on the new position of Vice President for 2009. We would like to give a hearty "Thank you" to Mike Mathieu for his reign as President of IPMS Ottawa in 2008. We look forward to seeing more of his great works of plastic art in 2009!
  • Some of the plans for 2009 were shared at the December meeting, and were met with definite enthusiasm from the assembled membership. We will be re-introducing some "back to basics" ideas, including demonstrations of various modelling techniques. We hope to have the use of multi-media equipment to show to make it easy for everyone to watch the demonstrations. For the January 2009 meeting we already have our first demonstration lined up: Graham Mansell will be demonstrating how to create quilted panel liners for aircraft. We have some other really cool ideas for the 2009 meetings, and hope that the club will grow and thrive.
  • Robin Purgina was the winner (and 2nd place runner up as well) of the December OOB (out-of-box) contest, with his fine 1/87 scale military trucks. We're looking forward to posting some pictures of these excellent models.
  • A group of club members introduced the motion to move forward with the CAPCON 2009 contest in September 2009. After some spirited discussions and agreement to follow up on some potential conflicts, the membership voted overwhelmingly in favour of moving forward with CAPCON 2009.
We can now let the cat out of the bag... CAPCON 2009 is a go for September 26, 2009 at the Nepean Sportsplex.
    Stay tuned for more info!
  • Collection of membership dues will begin at the January 2009 meeting. A yearly membership in IPMS Ottawa is only $15.
Guests will be given a 2-meeting grace.

Hoping to see you all on January 7, 2009!

Cheers!

Glenn Cauley
President, IPMS Ottawa
