February 2006

The February meeting was well attended for the Triple Presentation on Groundwork hosted by Hank Gruben, Juan Lopez and myself. Hank spoke of traditional methods for creating bases and groundwork, followed by a quick presentation by yours truly that focused on the fast and the furious method of groundwork. Last but not least was Juan with his tour de force on diorama building.

Between presentations, a discussion on the monthly club contests was led by Jim Coady and Hank Gruben. The central theme was what to do with the contests as participation has dwindled. Several ideas were raised and assessed, however it was only when a member with some history in the club shed light on the original purpose and intent of the Adhoc Contests that a solution was found. This solution was to return to how things were run ages ago and dispense with the ideas of ribbons or points for the Adhoc Contests. Additionally, those who do participate in club functions will be entered in a draw for prizes at the December meeting. Details will follow.

Graham Mansell is only slightly threatened by Jamie Leggo, armed with.... A SHRUBBERY!

Glenn Cauley and Hank Gruben reprise their roles from Cheech and Chong's Dude where's my papers!

This leads me to a point I have brought up several times but always seems to fall on non-responsive ears. The club has been around since 1764 and currently is presided over by someone who detests the Ottawa Senators. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (St. Laurent Centre) the club held an International Model Contest that started the careers of Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson and Kathy Ireland, to name but a few… Of course, none of this true (okay, I do hate the Sens…) but it raises a valid point: We need a record of the clubs achievements, milestones and prominent members. If you’d like to share your memories, good, bad or ugly, drop me an email via the Contact page or post them in the forum. Eventually I’ll compile the submissions and post them to the site.
