The first IPMS Ottawa meeting of 2006 was held this past Wednesday and was attended by about 20 members who braved the horrid winter weather. I guess it wasn’t that bad, but being from Toronto I was surprised that the city had not been shut down. All in all it was a good turn out and quite frankly more people showed up than I thought would.

As it was the first meeting of the year, club members were asked what seminars they wished to see during future meetings. Several interesting topics were raised and we now have an almost full meeting schedule. See “Schedule” under “The Club” link on the website for details.

  

 

Michael Roy had called me the day of the meeting to save my hyde volunteer to give a seminar described as “Back to Basics,” during which, Michael described the various methods of separating parts from the sprue. While not looking a gift horse in the mouth at the time, I didn’t know how Mike could give a seminar on this topic, but I have to admit I was surprised by how much I learned through the course of the demonstration.
 

Glenn Cauley visited the club for the first time during the January meeting and joined on the spot. He is currently working on a model of the U-boat that his father’s Sunderland aircraft sunk during the Second World War. During our meeting planning session, Glenn offered to bring his father out to speak to the club in the near future, which club members enthusiastically supported. Welcome to IPMS Ottawa, Glenn!

Website News

As announced during the December Meeting, Steve Milstone-Turner has stepped forward to take over webmastering duties. Steve has asked me to stay on to assist him with some of the more technical aspects of the site and I have accepted his invitation.
