IPMS Ottawa/Farnborough Updates

September 11–18, 2007

I am very happy to report that Les and Jan Burningham were able to visit for this period, to do some sightseeing in Ottawa, to visit CAPCON, and to visit Sharon and me in Petawawa. In Ottawa, we got to the RCMP Musical Ride Training Centre, the National Aviation Museum, the Science and Tech Museum, did all sorts of shopping, and had great weather doing it all. On September 15th, we attended CAPCON, with Les meeting many members, reviewing the 400-odd models, and making several presentations from IPMS Farnborough to Kevin Smith, President of IPMS Ottawa. Kevin very kindly reciprocated with a series of armour subject books for the IPMS Farnborough membership. That evening we drove to Petawawa and, during the next two days, took a boat trip up the Ottawa, visited the CFB Petawawa Museum, and basked in phenomenal weather yet again. Tuesday it was back to Toronto for the flight home on Wednesday. This trip featured visits to the future site of the Janusz Zurakowski Visitor Centre in Barry's Bay, the Algonquin Park Visitor's Centre, dinner at a lodge in the park, and a close encounter with a moose! Sharon and I had a tremendous time hosting these two wonderful people, and we hope to see them again in the future!

At CAPCON, the "Twin's Trophy" was won by a beautifully built and finished Bf 109E that flew in the Battle of Britain. I hope to get photos up on this page soon, once I sort out the intricacies of the technology. Please bear with me, and watch this space! IPMS Farnborough held their annual Modelfest on September 23rd, so please visit their website for a review of that important activity, and for a soon-to-be-posted site dealing with the visit of Les and Jan.
