IPMS Ottawa/Farnborough Update

August 5, 2009

I’m very happy to post this update, the first in quite a while. We have had a visit from IPMS Farnborough to Ottawa, and we will shortly have a visit from IPMS Ottawa to IPMS Farnborough. The Twin’s progress!

In early August, Pete Readman and his charming wife Sara arrived in Canada for a four-week visit to the eastern part of the country. Pete had asked me some time ago about the August meeting of IPMS Ottawa, which was scheduled for August 5th.  Pete and Sara spent a few days in Toronto, and then arrived in Ottawa on the afternoon of August 4th.

In my role as Liaison Officer for both clubs, we arranged for me to meet with them at their hotel at about noon on August 5th. That accomplished, we toured parts of Ottawa, visiting sites along the Ottawa River, Dow’s Lake Pavilion, the Canada Aviation Museum, and the Museum of Science and Technology (briefly, as we got there just a little before closing). Following a dinner at a nearby restaurant, Sara returned to the hotel, while Pete and I walked back to the Science and Tech. A tremendous turnout was in evidence, and Pete was able to meet many members, including IPMS Ottawa President Glenn Cauley and IPMS Canada National Director Jamie Leggo. IPMS Ottawa presented Pete with a memento of his visit, a copy of the Illustrated History of the RCAF, signed by everyone who was in attendance. Following the meeting, members repaired to the aforementioned restaurant where further fellowship continued. Pete was quite pleased to meet Mike Belcher, who he had met several times at the UK Nationals. Following an hour of so of conviviality, I returned Pete to his hotel, and suffering no ill effects from his evening. I then wended my way back to Petawawa.
