About IPMS Ottawa

IPMS Ottawa is a local chapter of the International Plastic Modellers Society, an international organization of hobbyists interested in building plastic model kits. IPMS Ottawa was established as the first Canadian IPMS local chapter in 1966. The current membership of approximately 70 members has a passion for plastic models of all types – including aircraft, military vehicles, automotive, ships, figures, science fiction/fantasy, and more! While we recognize there are many different types of scale models, IPMS Ottawa focuses on plastic scale models.

The hobby of scale plastic model building has steadily evolved from early beginnings of fairly crude kits… to its present-day offering of very diverse subjects (from simple to sophisticated), and user-friendly construction & finishing materials and tools. The advent of the Internet has given hobbyists access to a huge amount of information to help them craft any subject that they desire, and allowed the model-building community to become even more closely knit and connected to share their passion for the hobby.

IPMS Ottawa holds regular monthly meetings aimed at plastic scale model builders — from novice to experienced — which include presentations, discussions, contests, and more.

We also hold monthly model building sessions at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum (CASM), we participate in open house displays, and we host a well-established biennial model contest CAPCON.
